I love this hauntingly very good well done ghost story, the comments below mine, ,I agree with, 💯.
No one is reading these comments
Excellent .. delicious dark wit...so beautifully read
I've never heard this story before, Even though it was laid out into a play. Every actor and actress did a phenomenal job in this play.. The script was more than well written. I most certainly hope in the futhere will be more bone chilling, mind-boggling, scripts and plays, in the future.
I just listened to this no more than 7 hours ago., But you see, they were with different characters.. The wife wasn't involved. That's the difference between this play and the other play.. But thank you anyway.
That would be a living hell As I divorced my wife Decades ago there's no one in hell I will want her To be in control of my brain and my one eye. Even though this is just a fictional story.
🀄🩰⛳🤍🌂💱😆
The exchange between dentist and Mrs Phelps show his sadistic ways
For some reason, Andy's voice honestly put the fear of God into me that my stomach started churning
This was creepy.
Prunela, SCALES 40 TOWERS and no commercials either.
Wow! That was disturbing, but it had great atmosphere! Really like the narrator!
I'm reading Danse Macabre by Stephen King and he just mentioned the original radio play so I came here to find it and found this instead, it was so good. I like how the lady's harrowing experience made her and her husband ultimately into this psycho sexual being topped off with this well deserved revenge!
Brilliant voice
👻👾2022 Fear on four I remember the price of fear with Vincent price has any one read or listened to The PAN BOOK OF HORROR STORIES A COLLECTION OF CHILLERS THEY ARE QUITE UNSETTLING unusual and spooky. Don't know if they are all available to download.
English is not my first language. Can someone explain what this story is about? I don't get it well. It sounds like one painter got obsessed with the beauty of a farm girl and wants to paint her and stay there, while the other painter thinks it's a horrible idea and the place is whacky and everyone's weird.
Tales of the Unexpected…
Recognize Thora Hird’s voice anywhere, a long way from Songs of Praise!
This woman is going to need a new dress!
Mrs Phelps eyes widen " You'll be buried with this filling "
I remember this from the time - I recorded most of the episodes
Loved it 😈
👻👻CREEEEPY!!!!💀💀
Thora Hurd is always a treat
Brilliant explanation of each number
The best audio adaptation of the monkeys paw, ever without a doubt BRILLIANT.
No.# 13( for my list )
No.12 ( for my list )
I think I use string and a door knob
Sorry…but don’t understand this comment ⁉️
OMG I was sure it was Hannah Gordon playing Helen.
What was the song called
I love listening to these. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to upload.
i will never look at snow the same way again
BBC Radio 4 extra used to make these available in archive form, but now that system has been lost. So, I am glad that these are available. This one is a high-quality copy. Many of the stories in this series are excellent. Some particularly memorable ones are 'St Austin Friars', 'Vicious Fish (with John Hollis), 'By the River Fontainbleau', 'The Horn' and the very scary 'Hellhound on My Trail'.
eney body doing this for school
Yessm
ye
This was really good- I was a bit scared at first bcs I was home alone 🙈
Ikr it’s my school work.
The ending---the knocks on the door etc and leading up to that----left so much potential in the dust. Sounds of the son approaching. Glimpses of shadows thru a a window, or a shape approaching...all kinds of things could've been introduced very subtly. Seems they did the absolute minimum. Oh well.
I think the Vincent Price "Price of Fear" version of this story much superior since it builds in the female character's relationship from the start. This one is ok, but...certainly helps to have more detail and nuance.
I think a good round of family therapy and anti-psychotics could have prevented nearly every dilemma in this story!
I did the sounds of the brain removal, working with Joss Ackland in this production, in Broadcasting house all those years ago. So pleased to find this. Believe it or not, we got complaints that it was a bit gory. Shows that radio drama gets in your head because you are trying to make up the pictures in your mind as you listen. Even though the brain was a watermelon and the veins were balloons. The skull was a flower pot and the saw was an electric toothbrush.
Ouch! Sadist. 😫 The thing is, the surgeon or madman or whatever says it will take a long time to remove the brain from the skull, and then, about two minutes later, the brain is out. There's no transition. Am I missing something? Is this supposed to be an unimportant detail? It seems sloppy. Sorry.
@@hudsony777 It’s about the script - if you don’t like the pace blame Roald Dahl or the producer! You don’t allocate real time to things like this. The drama is in the interaction of the characters and the ideas, and the way they develop. Personally I’d have liked more time too but in context that would have unbalanced the flow of the story. In this case the sounds are illustrating the ideas the surgeon expounds - we are in that time but cleverly it brings us forward to the actual operation. It if was TV it would probably be more literal.
@@MarkHarmer I write, produce and direct audio dramas. The production was tight, the acting excellent, the writing sloppy. Of course the audience isn't going to sit there for 6 hours to reflect the reality of the statement. It just stood out for me. If I had done something like this, I would have been mortified. Someone should have mixed in some kind of fade implying time passing. Anyway, Dahl is dead and it was a long time ago. Who cares? I'm just surprised at the BBC.
@@hudsony777 who cares indeed! I only came as a comment that I’d done the sound effects. Not to get into an argument.
@@MarkHarmer The brain removal was excellent. And I always thought Roald just used to forget to use the "n" in his name where it ought to be. Never knew if it was supposed to be "RO-ald" or "Rolled" or whatever. Perhaps Patricia Neal did.
Can anyone explain why "Speciality Of The House" was deleted? I can't find it anywhere on UA-cam. (The Fear on Four version)
I'll bet that this very sort of thing has actually been tried and been successful. I weep for the poor souls that end up being trapped in a "basin," without any hope of escape. Only the purest psychopathy science:medicine has to offer could preform such a marvelous torture as this. But it's ok because it's for "the greater good," innit?
anyone have to listen to this for school-?
Ye
Lol
Ye
Rip yes
yes
I don't get the ending
It's creepy how, the longer you listen to that repeating lute trill and cough, the more sinister it starts sounding to your mind.
Ha! perfect story!
Poor Andy! Fate didn't favour him at all :(
Tanks for the effort 😁 and keep up with the good work 👍
